Perry van der Heijden is KNO-arts met als aandachtsgebied plastische aangezichtschirurgie. Neuscorrecties zijn zijn specialiteit. Een belangrijk deel van zijn werk is het verwijderen van huidkanker in het gezicht, waarbij het natuurlijk erg belangrijk is dat het gezicht mooi en onopvallend herstelt. Daarnaast verricht hij zowel inwendige, als uitwendige neuscorrecties, oorcorrecties, ooglidcorrecties en littekencorrecties.
Van der Heijden is lid van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Keel- Neus- Oorheelkunde en Heelkunde van het Hoofd-Halsgebied, Europese academie voor plastische aangezichtschirurgie, Nederlandse werkgroep plastische aangezichtschirurgie. Hij is voorzitter van de landelijke commissie voor kwaliteitsregistratie van neuscorrecties
Na de opleiding tot KNO-arts zijn vele bezoeken geweest aan gerenommeerde collega's op het gebied van plastische aangezichtschirurgie in binnen- en buitenland. Bijzonder is dat zowel KNO-artsen, als dermatologen, plastisch chirurgen en kaakchirurgen bezocht zijn waardoor het beste van alle specialismen gecombineerd kan worden.
Over een periode van 4 jaar zijn alle uitgevoerde operaties beoordeeld door de Amerikaanse raad voor plastische aangezichtschirurgie. In combinatie met het Amerikaanse examen is daarmee het certificaat voor plastische aangezichtschirurgie behaald.

The European Board for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was established in 2013. Its mission is to improve the quality of facial plastic surgery available to the public in Europe.
The European Board is dedicated to measuring the qualifications of candidate surgeons against rigorous standards.
Among the core endeavors of the EBCFPRS is the administration of the European Board exam in facial plastic surgery. This is performed in collaboration with the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS.org).
This exam has been developed over decades with substantial effort. Questions are field tested and selected only when they have been shown to accurately correlate with expert knowledge. The oral part of the exam is administered by senior examiners from Europe and the United States. A total of 12 case scenarios are presented to the examinees over a 3 hour period. The examiners are synchronized by senior board examniers. The expected answers and questions are discussed in a full day session, ensuring maximal fairness and reliability of the exam results. Both the written and the oral results are subject to rigorous quality control.
The exam forms only one part of the certification process. Candidates for both the regular and the fellow track are required to submit 100 relevant surgical cases over a 2 year period (50 per year).This surgical experience is reviewd by an expert board. Of course, all credentials of the surgeon including medical board and specialty board certification are reviewed during the process. Only when all requirements have been fullfilled, the successful candidate are provided with a certificate of "EBCFPRS Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon
